West Jones Track Team
District Champions 2013

The West Jones track team wins district again, and the Lady Mustangs reach a milestone by winning their 13th straight district championship. Succeeding in such a task is impressive and could be the longest record in all of sports in Jones County.

Congressman Steven Palazzo (R-MS), Mississippi’s fourth congressional district representative, announced winners of the 2013 Congressional Art Competition for the fourth congressional district. More than 700,000 high school students have participated in the art competition since it began in 1982.  All entries were on display at Pearl River Community College on Monday, March 25th for a forum where Congressman Palazzo announced the winners.
West Jones High School  2013 category winners include: Weston Widener 1st place for Photography, Emily Sullivan 1st place for collage, Hannah Hutson 1st place drawing, Shelby Ishee 3rd place drawing, Morgan Breitling 2nd place mixed media.  The art teacher at West Jones High is Lori Harrison.

High Five Winners

Lizzie Lingle and Alex Campbell            Marques Currie and Evan Bynum
The "High Five" Motto is:
1) Be Safe
2) Be Responsible
3) Be Respectful
4) Be Honest
5) Be Your Best
Tristan Laypath and Keyon Ducksworth

West Jones Middle School administration and staff have designed the "High Five Club" to encourage positive behavior among students. This positive behavior intervention is a team based approach to enforce positive behavior among the student body.  Wade Clark, middle school principal, Doreen Hill, middle school counselor, and all the 7th and 8th grade teachers issue tickets to students seen exhibiting desired behavior. Tickets are then deposited into the "High Five" box for a drawing each Friday. Two winning students are then awarded prizes and their names are added to the "High Five Club" roster. By using this unique technique, WJMS is moving from a culture that is set up to catch students breaking rules to a culture that is set up to catch students in positive behaviors. These characteristics are focused in all school settings: classrooms, hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, common areas, assemblies, and buses.
