West Jones High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes

The West Jones High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) with help of anonymous donors were able to give a copy of the FCA God's Game Plan--Athlete's Bible to all athletes at West Jones in grades 9-12. Justin Graves, Jones County FCA Representative coordinated the purchase and delivery of the cases of Bibles. The distribution was coordinated by Wade Clark, West Jones Middle School Principal. Brandon Adcock, WJHS FCA sponsor, along with officers Samantha Dean and Madison Clark helped hand-out the Bibles to the students who assembled in the Performing Arts Center for the presentation.

High Five Winners

Week 30...Callie Shows (8th) and Cassianna Gresset (7th)

West Jones Middle School administration and staff have designed the "High Five Club" to encourage positive behavior among students. This positive behavior intervention is a team based approach to enforce positive behavior among the student body.  Wade Clark, middle school principal, Doreen Hill, middle school counselor, and all the 7th and 8th grade teachers issue tickets to students seen exhibiting desired behavior. Tickets are then deposited into the "High Five" box for a drawing each Friday. Two winning students are then awarded prizes and their names are added to the "High Five Club" roster. By using this unique technique, WJMS is moving from a culture that is set up to catch students breaking rules to a culture that is set up to catch students in positive behaviors.

The "High Five" Motto is:

1) Be Safe
2) Be Responsible
3) Be Respectful
4) Be Honest
5) Be Your Best

These characteristics are focused in all school settings: classrooms, hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, common areas, assemblies, and buses.

WJH Receives Grant From Exxon
The administration at West Jones High School was excited to learn they were the recipients of a $500 grant from Exxon Mobil Educational Alliance.  West Jones was nominated by Clark Oil Company, Inc. (Clark’s #49).  This grant will be used for incentive programs for math and science classes.   Assistant Principal, Sharon Grasha, stated, “We are always looking for funding for those little extras that make kids want to go the extra mile.  This grant will be a huge help in that area.”  Grasha noted that West Jones High School is a High Performing School based on the state accountability model.  She attributed that success to good teachers who inspire their students to do their personal best.  She believes that grants such as the Exxon grant and community partnerships play a huge role in giving our teachers and students the tools they need to be successful.  Thank you to Clark Oil Company and Exxon Mobil.
