WRITE NIGHT OUT
7th GRADERS AT SOUTH JONES BECOME PUBLISHED AUTHORS/ILLUSTRATORS

Recently the 7th grade English teachers at South Jones (B. Robertson, L. Cowart, J. Valentine,  A. Boulware) and the Media Specialist
(O. Keys) collaborated on a project where the students wrote, illustrated, and published original stories as part of a unit of study. Everything was done at school and each student was responsible for developing their stories and illustrating their own work. It was amazing to see their creativity and artistic skills as they honed their writing, language, punctuation, and grammar skills. On Tuesday, Feb. 5, their teachers and librarian hosted a Write Night Out Author Autograph Session/Reception in the Media Center for the students and their families. During this time the students shared their stories and received certificates for participating as well as various other caption awards, as books were judged per class by several community members. The project was such a success that another teacher is having his students write science and social studies stories.
