The registration dates to submit proofs of residency for students enrolling/attending Northeast Jones Middle and High School for the 2018-2019 school year will be:

  • Tuesday, July 24, 2018 (9:00 am - 6:00 pm)
  • Wednesday, July 25, 2018 (8:00 am - 2:00 pm)
  • Thursday, July 26, 2018 (9:00 am - 6:00 pm)

Schools out for summer

Jones county schools offering free summer meals at south high cafeteria, west high cafeteria, and northeast high cafeteria Monday through thursday June 4 through July 26. Closed July 2-6 for holiday. Breakfast 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Lunch 11 a.m to 12:30 p.m. 18 or under may eat free, adult breakfast $1.75 Adult lunch $3.00. Contact Lisa Little, child nutrition director for questions. 601-425-2588

Figueroa Awarded Entergy Bright Futures Student Athlete Award

Congratulations to Northeast Jones 2018 Graduate, Araceli Figueroa, for being awarded an Entergy Mississippi Bright Future Award for excellence in athletics, academics, and community service. Figueroa received her award on May 22, 2018 at the Clarion Ledger Sports Awards in Jackson, MS. The Clarion Ledger Sports Awards recognizes and honors the top athletic accomplishments in Mississippi High School Sports. Pictured with Araceli are the guest speakers for the awards program: Nomar Garciaparra, former MLB shortsop; Araceli, 2018 Entergy Mississippi Bright Future Award winner; and Mia Hamm, former U.S. Women's National Team soccer player.

Northeast Jones Mr. and Miss NEJ for 2017-2018 are
Kepley Malachi Harrison and Araceli Marie Figueroa

Araceli is the daughter of Pedro and Mary Figueroa of the Powers community. She attends Freedom Baptist Chruch. Araceli is a member of the Beta Club, Student Council, FBLA, TARs, Key Club and FCA. She is also a member of the Lady Tigers Soccer and Tennis Teams. NEJ's 2017 Homecoming Queen, Araceli was voted Most Likely to Succeed in the 2018 NEJ Who's Who, is president of the senior class and a senior class favorite. She also serves as president of the Student council and Vice-President of the Beta Club. Named to the 2018 NEJ Hall of Fame, Araceli is a HOBY Leadership recipient and was named Miss congeniality in the 2017 NEJ Beauty & Beau Pageant. She plans to attend Jones County Junior College where she will play soccer for the Bobcats. Araceli plans to continue her education at a major university and will study to become a neurosurgeon.

Malachi is the son of Timothy and Valerie Harrison of the Powers community. He attends Journey Church. Malachi is a member of the Tiger football, soccer, track, and tennis teams. He has been voted a class favoriate each year, was elected Mr. NEJ Junior High, and was voted Most Athletic in the 2018 NEJ Who's Who. Malachi was named 1st Team All State Kicker for football, 1st Team All District for all 6 years of soccer, and Overall MVP 1st Team in soccer. He plans to attend Jones County Junior College where he will play soccer for the Bobcats.

Olivia Grace Norwood and Dawson Scott Holder

Olivia is the daughter of Stan and Heather Norwood of the Glade community. She attends Glade Baptist Church. An honor roll student, Olivia is a member of Serteens, Student Council and the Tiger Yearbook Staff. She was elected Freshman Maid in NEJ's 2017 Homecoming and is a member of the Tiger Tennis team.

Dawson is the son of Jason and Shai Holder of Sandersville. He attends Glade Baptist Church. Dawson is a member of Student Council, the NEJ Football, Baseball, and Soccer teams, and was elected President of the Freshman class. He plans to attend Jones County Junior College after high school.

Burchfield Selected for Lott Leadership Institute

Burchfield, more information to follow Olivia Burchfield, daughter of Scott and Jennifer Sumrall of the Powers community, was recently selected to participate in the Trent Lott Leadership Institute for rising 9th grade students during the summer of 2018.  In the 8th grade at Northeast Jones, Olivia is president of the Middle School Student Council, vice-president of Middle School FBLA, and is a member of the 8th grade Lady Tigers basketball team and the Lady Tigers volleyball team.  She also volunteers as a stat keeper for the varsity baseball team and as an assistant coach for the Powers Peewee basketball team.  Olivia has also received recognition with Duke Tip for making a composite score of 21 on the ACT as a 7th grader.  After high school, she plans to attend medical school to become a doctor of Radiology. 

The Trent Lott Leadership Institute selects 50 rising 9th grade students from one hundred applicants per year.  The selected students will spend two weeks at the University of Mississippi and will receive college credit in a public policy class.  The program is designed to cultivate students to become better leaders in their community.  Students are selected based on their academic grade point average, standardized test scores, and community involvement.

Twenty-two NEJ students met Mr. Benoit and Mr. Mills before school to eat a good breakfast before taking the U.S. History state test. Good luck on your test! We know you will do great!

Congratulations to Casey Stroo, Northeast Jones Middle/High School Teacher of the Year, for being named the Jones County School District Teacher of the Year. At NEJ, Mr. Stroo is a member of the Science Department as well as an assistant soccer coach.

Congratulations to Northeast Jones Senior Esmeralda Figueroa for being named a 2018 Mississippi Wendy's High School Heisman Finalist. Esmo was one of 20 high school students in the state of Mississippi recognized in an awards ceremony on April 19th at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.

Walters/Stroo Named NEJ STAR Student & Teacher

Erin C. Walters, daughter of Stewart and Juanita Walters of the Myrick community has been named Northeast Jones STAR Student for the 2017-2018 school year by the Mississippi Economic Council (MEC) M. B. Swayze Foundation.  Historian of the NEJ Class of 2018, Erin will be honored during the annual Education Celebration on April 12, 2018, at the Jackson Convention Complex in downtown Jackson.

Star Students are selected on the basis of academic excellence.  Both American College Test scores and scholastic averages are compared to determine the school's STAR Student, explained Vickie Powell of Jackson, Senior Vice President of Foundations.  "The STAR program encourages and promotes academic achievement among Mississippi's high school seniors," she said.  Each STAR Student is asked to designate a STAR Teacher, the teacher who has made the greatest contribution to the student's scholastic achievement. Jessica C. Stroo was designated NEJ's 2017-2018  STAR Teacher.  Mrs. Stroo teaches French and Advanced Placement World History, and is the Beta Club sponsor.

Gold Horizons Earn GOLD in Orlando

The Northeast Jones Gold Horizons show choir wrapped up the 2018 season by attending the Worldstrides Onstage Heritage Festival in Orlando, Florida March 15-March 18. Gold Horizons won 1st Place in the show choir competition and earned a Gold Award! The awards ceremony was held at Universal Islands of Adventure. Senior Fee $40.00 - Pay Mrs. Felecia in attendance office.  This fee is due any time before graduation.  This fee is for rental of the Magnolia Center, diploma printing, etc.  It is separate from cap and gown and is payable to NEJ.
Cap and Gown ATTENTION::  If you have NOT ordered your cap and gown, a late fee will be after January 12, 2018.

  • Our annual Spring Art Show will be on April 30th, from 5:30 to 6:30 in the lobby of the PAC. We hope this will be a great addition to the Black and Gold Revue which starts at 7:00 that evening. The PAC lobby doors will open at 5:30 for the art show and admission is free. The PAC inner doors will open at 6:30 for the Black and Gold Revue.
  • Tuesday, May 1st, the art show will be open to the student body for viewing. We encourage all teachers to bring their classes that day, if at all possible.

  • Yearbooks are still $85.00.  Order online soon! The price goes up to $100.00 each next Monday, April 2. Students, names can only be added to your yearbook cover if you order online! Actual costs of the yearbooks are around $150 each.  Thanks to our yearbook staff for working hard to keep our purchase cost down.
  • All old yearbooks are $25.00 each!
    We do not have any from the 60s or 70s or 80s... We have very few from the 90s..... We have none from 2002 or 2015.....
    If you wish to get one, let me know the year. This is the perfect time to be certain you have every book from your 6 years at NEJ or your child's 6 years!
