NEJ Gold Horizons Win 1st in Division, 3rd Runner Up in Finals
at 2017 South Jones Invitational Show Choir Competition

On Saturday, Janaury 28, 2017 the NEJ Gold Horizons competed in the 2017 South Jones Invitational Show Choir Competition hosted by South Jones Company. Gold Horizons won 1st place in the Middle Mixed Division (AA). Gold Horizons winning performance secured them a spot in Finals competition, in which they competed against four Large Mixed Division show choirs. In the end, Gold Horizons emerged as the 3rd Runner Up!

NEJ Gold Horizon Director is Dr. Bill Myers and Gold Horizon Captains are Derrick Williams, Lauren Hankins, Haley Holifield, Olivia Pippin, and Josarah Slover. This year's show was designed/choregraphed by Ben Shrank. Congratulations GH!

The Jostens representative will be here on Friday, Feb 3 to do a presentation for sophomores @ 11:25 AM, and he will return to take orders and deposits for class rings on Wednesday, Feb 8 @ 8:30 AM; Family night is Feb 8 from 4:00-6:00 PM. Bring at least a $65 or $100 deposit. Prior to ordering, review the information packet. Packets are available from THE OFFICE. All students who wish to order a class ring should attend this meeting.

Cap and Gown Fee Beginning on January 1, a late fee was added for those that have NOT already ordered their Cap and Gown.  If you have NOT ordered your Cap and Gown, you will need to do so by calling the Jostens Jackson office at 601-362-0020 to order over the telephone.  If you have already ordered and still have a balance, you can bring your payments to the attendance office.  Checks need to be made payable to Jostens Service Center.
Senior Fee Senior Fee $40 should be paid to Mrs. Felecia in the attendance office. This fee is for rental of the Magnolia Center, diploma printing, etc.  It is separate from cap and gown and is payable to NEJ.

  • Serteens is having a canned food drive for the Glory House in Laurel.  There is a Barrel outside Mrs. Thrash’s room for canned food items.  Items needed are peanut butter, jelly, canned vegetables, fruits, instant oatmeal, grits, soup, juice boxes, sugar, flour, coffee, cups, paper plates, pudding cups, etc.  Anything and everything will be appreciated.  Serteens, this is for 3 community service hours.  You MUST bring at least 5 items to receive 3 hours.  All of these items can be brought for little expense at Dollar Tree or Dollar General. 
  • Roses are first come first serve.  We have 100 ordered.  They are the most expensive to buy, so we will determine whether or not to order more after we hit the 100 mark.  Serteen members need to be sure to make this clear to the people they are selling to.
  • Serteens are selling pink carnations and roses for Valentine’s Day.  Flowers will be delivered on Tuesday, Feb. 14.  Carnations are $1.00 each, and Roses are $2.00 each.  A dozen (roses or carnations) is $15.00.  If you want a mixed dozen, it is $20.00.  Please see any Serteen member to order one.  Last day to order is Feb. 8.

  • It’s Mugshots time again!  NEJ Sr. Beta is selling Mugshots burgers as a fundraiser with delivery on Friday, March 10 (Friday before Spring Break).  Plates are $10 and include a burger, chips, and a drink.  Deliveries will be made to schools if there are 10 or more plates sold.
  • All Sr. Beta members need to go by and pick up Mugshot tickets from Mrs. Stroo ASAP.
  • Applications are available in Mrs. Stroo’s room if you would like to join Sr. Beta. You must have a 90 or above average in each class/subject on your semester report card.

Northeast Jones FFA needs your help

An NEJ FFA member/family lost everything in a house fire Sunday. Monday night (1/23/17) a member of the community will be at the NEJ Gym taking up donations of clothing, shoes, jackets, WalMart gift cards, etc. Donations may also be dropped off in the Ag Building (see Mr. Walters or Dr. Scammahorn) all week from 8am - 3pm.

Dad's Sizes:

34 waist/34 length pants; medium/large shirts; 9- 9 1/2 shoes

Mom's Sizes:

12 pants, large shirts; 8 1/2 shoes

Son's Sizes:

18 Slim pants; Youth Large shirts, 6 1/2 shoes


NEJ Soccer Service Project

We will be taking up money, Walmart gift cards, and non perishable snacks at tonight's playoff game for the William Carey soccer teams. We will also collect donations throughout the week at school.

Key Club From now until Jan 20, the NEJ Key Club is selling Tiger Paws to seniors to be painted in front of the football field. They are $20. Profits from this project will be used for senior scholarships. Tiger Paws may be purchased from Mr. Mills in room 9 or in the high school office.
Serteens
  • There will be a mandatory meeting on Thursday, January 19th at 7:25am in the PAC. All members need to attend.
  • Congratulations to Alex Harrison for being chosen as Sertoma Student of the Month for January.  Alex will choose a teacher that has influenced him throughout his academic life to attend a luncheon at the Laurel Country Club where he will be recognized.  Congratulations again to Alex Harrison.
Senior Beta
  • All Sr. Beta members need to go by and pick up Mugshot tickets from Mrs. Stroo ASAP.
  • Applications are available in Mrs. Stroo’s room if you would like to join Sr. Beta. You must have a 90 or above average in each class/subject on your semester report card.
TARS Meeting Friday January 20 at 7:30am in Mrs. Smith's room. If you are not able to attend, please go by her room sometime Friday to pick up meeting information.

  • The yearbook must now be purchased online.
  • SALE of 2017 Tiger Yearbook: January 1 until March 30, the cost is $80.00! On March 31, the cost goes up to $90.00. Cap and Gown Fee A late fee will be added added to the Cap and Gown fee beginning January 1, 2017. Please bring your completed order form along with payment0 to the attendance office. Checks neet to be made payable to Jostens Service Center.
Senior Fee Senior Fee $40 should be paid to Mrs. Felecia in the attendance office. This fee is separate from cap and gown and is payable to NEJ.

FBLA FBLA meeting on Friday, January 13, 7:20am in Mrs. Tew's lab.  Meeting is mandatory for members competing in JCJC district competition on February 2.

Junior Beta All money for the Orlando trip and convention are due by Friday Jan. 6. If this is not paid you will be deleted from the trip. We have deadlines we have to meet and our checks have to be sent to Orlando and to the National Beta Office for convention. Thanks!

  • Any Serteen member who wants to earn community service hours can go to “glory house” in laurel this Sunday, January 15 at 1:00 and help serve meals and help with the children. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Phyllis Wagnon.
