Middle School FBLA Membership Drive underway NOW. Pick up Membership forms from Mrs. Robinson in 234.
Quiz Bowl Practices will be every Wednesday from 3-5 this semester, starting 8/16 and will continue until the season is over. Quiz bowl will have its first competition on Monday September 18 with finals being at JCJC on November 8. 
Serteens
  • CHANGE***Serteens can bring 5 hygiene products such as soap, shampoo, bath clothes, shaving cream, razors, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.  Students can bring canned foods, but hygiene products are what Glory House is very much in need for right now. 
  • All Students planning to join serteens need to pick up a remind handout from outside room 35 (Mrs. Purvis) in building 2.
  • Serteens and yearbook members are selling BBQ tickets for NEJ Alumni ScholarshipsSmokehouse is providing these plates.  Plates are $10.00 and include ¼ chicken, baked beans, potato salad, and bread.  This is for September 8 with pick up will be in the cafeteria from 5-7 p.mYOU MUST HAVE YOUR TICKET TO PICK UP YOUR PLATE.  Please help us with this annual fundraiser for NEJ Alumni Scholarships.  Make checks payable to NEJ Alumni Scholarships or have exact cash.
  • All potential Serteen members and Yearbook members need to pick up their BBQ tickets in Mrs. Purvis’ room in Bldg. 2.  Each person will be given a book of 5 tickets @ 10.00 eachTurn in money to Mrs. Purvis by September 4. If you lose your tickets, you are responsible for the 50.00!  The person you sell them to “keeps” his/her ticket.  He /she must have a ticket to pick up their BBQ plate! No exceptions!

Students were asked to show their Tiger Pride by dressing-up on Friday theme days. A group of distinguished judges then selected a high school and middle school student that best displayed school spirit for that theme! The winners receive a free ticket to the NEJ Home game of their choice. This week's best dressed "Black and Gold" is M. Walker, 8th grade - Middle School and M. Shoemake, 11th grade - High School!

August 17, 2017 Press Release - Official Statement from the Jones County School District

Solar Eclipse

Due to the potential for eye damage, students in the Jones County School District will not be allowed to view Monday’s solar eclipse outdoors.

On August 21, a total solar eclipse will touch the U.S. mainland for the first time since 1979. Mississippi is in the path of a partial solar eclipse beginning at 11:54, with a maximum eclipse time at 1:28.  From 11:50 until the dismissal of school, students will remain indoors or in protected areas unless checked out by a parent or guardian.  All outdoor activities during these times are cancelled for all grades and all schools in the Jones County School District.

Teachers are encouraged to allow students to watch the online streaming of the event.  Parents who want their children to view the eclipse outdoors may check them out of school and receive an excused absence.

Quiz Bowl If anyone is interested in being a part of the Academic Quiz Bowl Team come by room 22 (Ms. Cruise) and get on the list. The main focus of the team is Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.   Practices will be every Wednesday from 3-5 this semester, starting 8/16 and will continue until the season is over. Competitions are held on Monday afternoons starting the end of August through mid September with Finals held at JCJC. 
Serteens Serteens will have their first meeting on Tuesday, August 15 in the PAC at 7:25.  Any 9-12th grade student who wants to join needs to be there.  Please pick up a membership application in Mrs. Wendy Purvis’ room before then.  Please complete the application fully.  We will be discussing our first fund raiser which is BBQ plates for NEJ Alumni Scholarships on September 8.

NEJ Junior FFA Members Elected to State Offices

Northeast Jones Junior FFA members Kendall Myrick, Briana Middleton, and Brooke Moore were named to  2017-2018 MS FFA Junior State Office during the 2017 MS FFA State Convention held on the campus of Mississippi State University in early June.  Kendall Myrick (3rd from right), daughter of Kevin and Alicia Myrick of the Powers community, is the 2017-2018 MS FFA Junior State Vice-President; Briana Middleton (2nd from left), daughter of Daniel and Lynn Middleton of the Myrick community, is the 2017-2018 MS FFA Junior State Secretary; Brooke Moore (3rd from left), daughter of Robby and Misty Moore of the Glade community, is the 2017-2018 MS FFA Junior State Reporter.  They are pictured with Northeast Jones AgEd Instructors/FFA Advisors David T. NEJ FFA Awards and Honors

Northeast Jones FFA's Brianna Fenton was named Mississippi FFA's South District Junior Star Farmer at the 2017 Mississippi FFA State Convention held on the campus of Mississippi State University in early June.  Fenton is the daughter of Todd and Carrie Fenton of the Glade community.  Her AgEd Instructors/FFA Advisors are David T. Walters, Dr. Aaron Scammahorn and Logan Dale.

Northeast Jones FFA's Lara Beth Wright won First Place in Junior Prepared Public Speaking at the 2017 Mississippi FFA State Convention held on the campus of Mississippi State University.  A Freshman at NEJ, she is the daughter of Johnny and Ashly Wright.  Wright's AgEd Instructors/FFA Advisors are David T. Walters, Dr. Aaron Scammahorn and Logan Dale.  

Junior FFA Parlimentarian Team, more information to follow The NEJ Junior FFA Parliamentary Procedure team of Kennedy Brooks (l-r) (Trent & Sheila Brooks of Tucker's Crossing), Caedence Hodge (Kevin & Dione Hodge of Myrick), Brianna Fenton (Todd & Carrie Fenton of Glade), Kendall Myrick (Kevin & Alicia Myrick of Powers), Brooke Moore (Robby & Misty Moore  of Glade), and Briana Middleton (Daniel & Lynn Middleton of Myrick), won second place in state Junior FFA Parliamentary Procedure competition at the MS FFA State Convention held on the campus of Mississippi State University in early June.  NEJ FFA AgEd Instructors/FFA Advisors are David T. Northeast Jones FFA Alumni Vice-President Thomas Parker (right) was named MS FFA Alumni's 2017 Outstanding Member at the 2017 MS FFA State Convention held on the campus of Mississippi State University in early June.  Parker has worked tirelessly in support of the Northeast Jones FFA Chapter and the Mississippi FFA Association.  Parker is pictured receiving the award from his eldest daughter Emily (a graduate of Northeast Jones), an Agricultural Information Science major at Mississippi State University and active member of the NEJ FFA Alumni.  Parker's younger daughter, Bailey E. Parker, is a Freshman at NEJ and is an active member of NEJ FFA. Parker honored, more information to follow

Homecoming, Class Favorites, and Class Officer Elections

  • Applications for Homecoming, Class Officer and Class Favorite may be picked up in the High School Media center and all English classes.
  • Completed applications are to be returned to Ms. Jordan in the High School Media Center before 12:30 p.m. (end of 5th period) on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017! (Middle School students may turn in applications to their English teacher who will forward the applications to Ms. Jordan.)
  • Elections will be Sept. 11-14, 2017.  During this four day period, all English classes will have scheduled time in a computer lab so that students may vote.
  • Homecoming is October 6, 2017.

 


Volleyball - Jungle Style!!!!

The first ever NEJ Lady Tigers Volleyball team won both JV and Varsity matches in straight sets last night! JV plays best 2 out of 3. JV won the first set 25-11 and the second set went into extra service, but the Lady Tigers kept fighting to win 33-31. In the Varsity, best 3 out of 5 match, the Lady Tigers won the first three sets, 25-18, 25-21 and 25-13.  We are very excited and thank the 200+ fans who came out to watch the Lady Tigers make history!  Our next game is against Wayne Co in the Jungle Thursday night starting at 5:30.

Northeast Jones Middle/High School begins the 2017-2018 school year under the leadership of a Tiger administration!! For the first time in the school's history, all Northeast Jones administrators are Northeast Jones graduates --- Northeast Jones Supervising Principal Dr. Jennifer H. Lowery (2nd from left) graduated from NEJ in 1991; Mr. Petara (P.T.) Jones (far left), 11th & 12 Grade Principal, is a 1995 NEJ graduate; Dr. William R. Parker (2nd from right), 9th & 10 Grade Principal, graduated from NEJ in 2000; Mr. Cody Brooks, 7th & 8th Grade Principal, is a 1997 graduate of NEJ!

All three Northeast Jones counselors - Allison Merritt-11th & 12th, Lea Lightsey-9th & 10th, and Vicki Johnson-7th & 8th - are NEJ graduates. NEJ Athletic Director Keith Braddock, NEJ Office Manager Christa Butler, NEJ Attendance Clerk Felecia Smith, NEJ High School Secretary Krysti Thornton, Jones County School District Scholarship Counselor Barbara Odom, and 33 of the NEJ faculty (Lisa Bolivar, Deidra Bourg, Lacy Buckhaults, Courtney Crager, Angela Culpepper, Karen Fitzgerald, Jeremy Gentry, Rebecca Green, Davey Hales, Frances Hill, Angie Hodge, Kim Hudson, Ebonie Jefferson, Rachel T. Quiz Bowl If anyone is interested in being a part of the Academic Quiz Bowl Team come by room 22 (Ms. Cruise) and get on the list. The main focus of the team is Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.   Practices will be every Wednesday from 3-5 this semester, starting next week. Competitions are held on Monday afternoons starting the end of August through mid September with Finals held at JCJC. 
Serteens Serteens will have their first meeting on Tuesday, August 15 in the PAC at 7:25.  Any 9-12th grade student who wants to join needs to be there.  Please pick up a membership application in Mrs. Wendy Purvis’ room before then.  Please complete the application fully.  We will be discussing our first fund raiser which is BBQ plates for NEJ Alumni Scholarships on September 8.
